TPHS were appointed by DHB to produce a composite VISSIM micro-simulation model of the A20 corridor which would also connect and model the current throughput and activities at the Eastern Docks ferry terminal (Terminal 1).
The model is in the process of being updated from two previous models set up to assess the port operations. One model of the A20 was previously produced to assess the impact of the Terminal 2 development proposals at the Western Docks which was granted consent under a Harbour Revision Order (HRO) in 2011. The other model was produced in 2011 to provide an assessment of Terminal 1 operations and proposed changes to on-site facilities at the port.
The new model covers 12 junctions including the A20 corridor and some in the Town Centre. The A20 covers the area from Western Heights roundabout through to the Eastern Docks roundabout and also the on-site operations within the port. A series of 18-hour video surveys has also been commissioned to update and validate the model.
The modelling has been undertaken to model the UK Border agencies exit checks at the port and also the impact of the TMi proposals.
